Taming the Tongue

“Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?”      James 4:11-12

The human body is fascinating!  The human brain is an excellent example of the wonder of God’s awesome power!  Our brains are mysteriously complex, each containing 200 billion to a trillion neurons; each one of those containing 10,000 receptor sites! The wonderful ways we can use our bodies are also amazing.  People have extraordinary talents!  People have memorized the entire Bible and Bruce Lee could play ping pong with nun chucks!  It’s amazing how much control a gymnast can exhibit or how an artist can capture beauty in a painting or poem.  This type of precision is tremendous!  I often wonder how we can be so good at certain talents, skills, and trades but struggle to control our words.  James, chapter 3 & 4 has much to say about the danger of our words.  James describes our tongues as rudders that turn mighty ships and bits that turn horses.  A huge forest fire can be started with the spark of our small tongue.  How are you controlling your tongue?  Remember we should always take our thoughts captive to Christ before we speak!
